Week 11 - By Small and Simple Means

Hiya! I can't believe that I'm already writing another email home.... it feels like I just sent the last one a couple days ago!

We had a lot of teaching appointments this week. Quite a few of them fell through, but I like to be optimistic and not let it drag me down. On the bright side, we had the opportunity to teach those that would listen, and invited them to ponder about the message of the restored gospel. Because most of the appointments fell through, we have had a lot of tracting and inviting time, which has been a blast. I am definitely getting used to talking to people at their doors and on the streets.

Within our district, we have someone with a date to be baptised! Johnathan has a solid testimony and has come to know for himself that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that the Book of Mormon is true! He is really looking forward to being baptized! It just goes to show you that there really are people that the Lord has prepared for us to teach, so I know not to be discouraged.

Homemade cake. Turned out pretty well.

On Thursday this week, we met a Pentacostal Preacher whose name is Ike. He is really cool. We were just walking on the street when he approached us and invited us to his home on Sunday. At the appointment, we shared the Restoration. He also asked quite a few questions that he had about things he heard from media and things. He didn't just want to listen to what the media said and instead wanted to to hear from people that were actual members of the church. He told us that he saw us a week back and wish he could've talked to us then. He also told us that he prayed that he would meet us again. That same morning of the prayer, he found us! It's pretty cool how God works! Unfortunately, he wouldn't take a Book of Mormon but he did say that he would pray and ask God if he should read it. I have faith that he will receive an answer.

A Reliant Robin - a 3 wheeled car. If anyone has seen Top Gear, hard to believe these things are street legal!

Zone conference is coming up over the next couple days, and I'm very excited to hear from my mission president, President Hughes. I know I'm going to learn a lot. He is a true example who speaks with power and authority. I'm also in the missionary choir now, so we get to sing at Zone conference, which is amazing. It's been some time since I've been in choir.

This week I just finished the Book of Mormon for the first time since I've been out on a mission. Everytime I pick it up and read it, I can't help but feel an inner peace and calmness. I like all of the statements that Moroni makes at the end, baring testimony of the truthfulness of the records and then asking us to judge for ourselves, but to remember that his words will stand as a testimony against us at the last day for those who do not believe. His testimony is so powerful, especially thinking about all he has gone through. He has seen the total destruction of his people due to their dissension and the once faithful Lamanites have all turned to sin and abomination. He is the sole survivor of the Nephites, and is fleeing for his life because he will not deny Christ. The Lamanites are murdering all the Nephites who will not deny the Christ. After having gone through all of that.... he has still kept his faith, and unwavering at that. I really do admire his strength and testimony. It makes me ponder about what I would do if I were in his situation. I also think about the religious freedoms that I have. Moroni really helps give me that faith, that hope to keep pressing forward. If Moroni can keep his faith in a time as hard as that, why can't I when I don't have to face challenges as difficult? It has really put things into perspective for me and has given me the strength to not waver in my faith.

My friends, as Moroni taught, all things are made possible through faith. Any miracle that was ever brought to pass, was accomplished through faith. It is only through faith that miracles are brought to pass. Keep up the faith, and as Alma taught to his son Helaman, it is "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass;" (Alma 37:6)

Remember that it is the small simple things that help us grow in our faith, like reading the scriptures, praying, going to church, making the next day better than the last through Jesus Christ and His Atonement. That is how we endure to the end and grow in our conversion.

Sorry this letter was more testimony and things which I have come to find out for myself this week, but I really do know that it is the small things that help us grow in our faith.

Thank you to all who read and join me on my adventures here in Bristol England!

Take care!

Cheers,

Elder Jakob
