Week 24 - Passing the TIme Away

Sorry for not whome riting last week. There was nothing really exciting to write home about.  As you can imagine life in the office is not really eventful.

This week was a bit depressing, really. Some missionaries ended up going home early. Although they are going home, I wish the best for them and pray they they will continue to strengthen their faith little by little. I don't know the reasons why they go home, but I do wish them luck. When you come on a mission, you tend to find out a lot about yourself as you strive and try your best to come closer to God and Jesus Christ.

We had to drive the missionaries to that airport at around 6am, so we had to wake up at 5am! I mean it's not that bad, but that makes me really tired by the end of the day.

Since I've been to the office, my diet has been really bad. I really can't stand it anymore, so I have decided that I will have a life style change. I admit that my daily workout routine has been slacking. I decided that from now on that I am going to workout everyday. I am also going to watch how much I eat and what I eat. Since I have started doing this, I feel a lot better!

Eating Indian food at the office.

We have had three zones have their interviews with President this week. The missionaries would wait in our office where we had set up chairs and tables for them to wait to be interviewed. Three days of this was kind of annoying because it just felt weird to have everyone try and look over your shoulder to see what you are doing!

Panoramic shot of our setup for the meetings we had.

In my last transfer, I didn't really get the opportunity to proselyte that much, but I am making it a priority this transfer of being able to go out and talk to people for at least an hour each day. It gets boring sitting in an office all day while working on computers.

Speaking of being bored and wanting to find things to do while in the office, my companion and I set up a squirrel trap out side. We have a clear plastic box with a weight on the top with a stick propping it up. We also have a string attached to it and feed it through the window. We bait it with cookies. When we see a squirrel trying to grab a cookie from the inside while working, we quickly pull the string and the stick falls and BOOM!  Squirrel caught!  No worries, we let them go and don't hurt any of them.

With zone conferences coming up again next week, it is also getting pretty busy with travel planning and everything else to prepare for it. President wants us to try and cut costs on travel for our last zone conference. We are doing our best, but England is not cheap for travel! Some of the tickets are outrageous in price! We have to do our best to plan for missionaries to get rides with other missionaries that have cars.

Well today as it was P-Day, we decided to have some fun. Yeah... I got duct-taped to a post, SUSPENDED in the air! That was pretty fun. No worries! I gave them permission to do it and I wasn't hurt, in case you are wondering. The end result was pretty funny!

Editor's note: moral of this story... don't let young missionaries ever get bored! They are prone to do silly things!

Hope you all loved General Conference. For those who don't know what it is, General Conference is a time where the apostles and the prophet, talk and share revelation that has been given to them through Jesus Christ. The words they speak are the words of Christ Himself would speak if he was here. By listening to them, their messages can help us to live better lives and their instructions will ultimately help us to be able to return back to out Father in Heaven again. I think my favourite part was when President Oaks talked about people who worry too much about minor details that don't matter, like the Resurrection and Spirit World for instance. We need to be more focused on the here and now and find out what we need to do to govern oursleves to get there in the first place.  Here is the link to that talk:

Hope everything is going well back home. Love you all.

Cheers,

Elder Jakob
