So this week has gone by so fast in comparison to the last one. Now there's only 1 week left until I'm out of the MTC (Missionary Training Centre).
This week hasn't been really interesting, well, that is up until yesterday. Yesterday, we went into the heart of Manchester, and we had the opportunity to experience "finding" (a missionary tactic used for finding people of interest). For those of you who don't know me, when I was a kid, I use to be quite outgoing, and would love talking to others. As I grew up, I started to dislike it more and more, and now I'm pretty uncomfortable with it.
When they let us off the bus in Manchester, there were so many people. My heart began to beat out of my chest. I was so nervous. It didn't help that they paired me with a companion that is currently learning English and doesn't speak much of it. I prayed that the Lord would give me strength to open my mouth so that I could speak to others. After I prayed, I opened my scriptures up to see if I could find something there that would help me. Guess what happened next? I happened to open up right to Doctrine and Covenants, section 18, verse 15 that reads:
"And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father!"
I tried it again just to make sure it wasn't a coincidence, I then happened to open up to Doctrine and Covenants 33:10 this time.
"Yea, open your mouths and they shall be filled, saying: Repent, repent, and prepare ye the way of the Lord, and make his paths straight; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand;"
Through these two scriptures, I felt comfort and was able to start finding. It wasn't easy and I got rejected a lot, but I was still able to grow because of it.
I know that prayer works, always does and always will. 3 Nephi 14:7 states:
"Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."
First we need to ask God for His help, then we need to look for an answer for ourselves, and then we need to act on it. He will give us the strength we need. I experienced this yesterday and I know that it works.
I testify to you that prayer really does work. All we need to do is ask with faith in God, that He will give us an answer, but we also need to be willing to put the work in to recieve that answer. No matter what you are going through, God can and will answer you if you are willing to ask Him with a sincere heart and with real intent.
A few day ago, I was listening to a talk/devotional given by Brad Wilcox, titled "His Grace is Sufficient." I invite all of you regardless of having already read it or not, to read it and really try to take it in. No matter how far you go, no matter how worthless you feel, no matter how unloved you may think you are, all of these feelings can be overcome through The Atonement of Jesus Christ. You will come to know how much you are loved by Him, how much you really mean to Him, and that there is no such thing as going too far away. All you need to do is be willing to make a change and to have the faith that He can change you.
Just a quick quote from the talk:
"[His Grace] is not a finishing touch, it is the Finisher's touch."

From the Editor: Elder Jakob as a child - he was so adorable!
